Being a makeup hoarder, skincare freak and extreme germaphobe, I’ve slowly learned little beauty hacks that have improved my skincare and health regimens. Of course, I had to share with you all, so grab a tall glass of lemon water and start taking notes!
Task: If you have a towel rack next to your toilet, move it. I don’t care how odd it looks wherever you choose to place your towel, JUST.MOVE.IT. Even better, store it inside a closet/cabinet. Why? A flushing toilet travels 10 feet causing germs and bacteria to spread everywhere. I bet you’re wondering about all those times you thought you were patting down a freshly cleansed face…
Task: Toss the loofah, use sugar and olive oil to exfoliate your body & to get blood circulating. Why? Damp, warm loofahs harbor bacteria and mildew potentially doing more harm than good. There are other ways to exfoliate hygienically.
Task: When washing your face, start out with lukewarm water then gradually end with cold. Why? Warm water or steam opens up our pores. When we clean our faces, we want to open up our pores wide so scrubs, cleansers and masks can reach deep into the skin making their job more effective. Cold water closes our pores. Who wants large, visible pores?
Task: Apply lotion to your body when your skin is still wet after a shower. Why? Applying a thick lotion traps moisture into your skin, making the moisturizing process more effective.
Task: Wash your makeup brushes every 1-2 weeks. Why? Germs love to sit in dirty makeup brushes. Help eliminate them while making your makeup application process easier by giving them a dip in olive oil and dishwashing soap.
Task: Workout. Whether you go for a brisk walk, do 25 jumping jacks for the day or go to workout classes, keep your body active. Why? Working out is the ultimate task to feeling good inside and out, healthy and beautiful. Need I say more?
Task: Meditate before bed. Why? Taking time for yourself is so important for your mind, body and soul. If you are constantly stressed like me, try it out. You’ll sleep like a baby. The easing of the mind will reflect in your skin as well.
Task: Wipe down your phone with an alcohol based wipe as often as possible. I carry wipes with me in my purse. (It’s my germaphobe tendencies). Why? Studies show that our phones carry more germs and bacteria than a public restroom door handle. Imagine how many germs transfer to your face while talking to the parents.
Task: Girls, don’t feel the need to wear makeup everyday and fix your hair. Why? Because there’s no need. Be natural while causing less damage to your skin and hair. (It matters).Oh and the most important-because you’re beautiful without it.
Task: Stay away and rid those people who are always complaining and negative. Why? Because they are annoying and will bring you down. I’ve made new friends after doing this and I couldn’t be happier. Try it!
Task: Aim to make a healthier change in your diet every 3 weeks. Why? What you put into your body is so important. Give up soda or eat a serving of vegetables everyday. It takes 21 days to form a habit. Imagine the possibilities.
Task: Even though fall is approaching, wear a suncreen. In fact, wear sunscreen everyday for the rest of your life. Why? Because you need to protect your skin from UV damage. I never leave the house without it, ever. I make sure my makeup has SPF too. You only have the skin that you have, take care of it! Watch THIS.
Task: Drink a glass of water every morning before doing anything else. Why? Because for 6+ hours you deprived your body of water. 70% of the human body content is water and so it plays an important role in the proper functioning of your entire system. The human brain cells contain about 85% of water.75% of muscle is water. Bones also contain about 25% water. Need I say more? Go grab a glass of water!
Task: When it’s time, throw your makeup away. Foundation:6-12 months, concealer: 6-8months, powder blush: 6-12 months, mascara: 3-4 months, lip products-12 months. Why? Just like anything else, your makeup has a certain time span from when it is manufactured. Throwing away products when they expire is not only hygienic but an excuse to buy more! Go clean out those makeup bins, ladies.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to September! Hope you enjoyed this post and took note of some of the changes I’ve made in my daily regimens. Happy Friday!
