Five Tips For Living A Stress Free Life

Recently, I moved from my home in West Virginia to my condo in Kentucky all while house hunting in Florida, which has been quite the adjustment. In a span of a couple of weeks, it’s definitely a lot to take on–very unsettling to say the least. My blog, social media and YouTube Channel have been scarce in posts and has been lacking in every possible way, not okay. I always set high expectations for myself and I feel like I completely fell off the face of the blogging world which has led me to a mountain of stress. I’ve had more responsibilities than I ever imagined I would and have grown up in a matter of weeks but everything happens for a reason, right? Because of all the chaos going on in my life, I realized how anxious and stressed I’ve been as of late which brings me to today’s post.

It’s no secret that I suffer from anxiety and stress (especially if you follow me on social media). Stress is an everyday thing for me, (more so now than ever before) but I specifically remember my anxiety started my junior year of college and it hasn’t stopped since then. Explaining anxiety to people who don’t suffer from it is almost like explaining color to a blind person—they just don’t get it and probably never will. It’s challenging, difficult and can be overbearing which can easily lead to other issues that I won’t get into today. Over the last couple of months, my heart has been racing non-stop while my mind has been everywhere but sane. Besides affecting me internally, anxiety and stress affect me BIG time on the exterior. I look unhealthy (aka get chubby), break out like crazy and have giant designer bags under my eyes. With all that being said, I really took the time to reflect on what made me feel better and ways I can handle my stress and anxiety in the best way possible. With school around the corner, I know this post will be relatable to a lot of you, whether you want to get organized or just need some insight on how I handle my anxiety, here are some things to keep in mind.

1. Become A Priority In Your Life And Don’t Rely On Others

If you are not already your own first priority, you need to re-configure. You should always be at the top of your own list. If I’ve learned anything these last 9 months since my dad passed away, it’s that people aren’t always going to be there for you, that’s why you have to learn to handle things on your own. Never be comfortable with relying on others, especially with things that hold a significant amount of importance to you. Putting crucial tasks and precious assets in the hands of others will only stress you out even more. Do things for yourself and put your needs (and wants) before others. If you want to start up a business, educate yourself and do it. If you want to buy that $250 skirt because it will make you feel like a million bucks, buy it. If you would rather stay in, put on a facemask, order pizza and watch Netflix rather than go out with all your friends, by all means, go for it. Be your own priority because you deserve it- I have and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made for myself

2. Simplify Your Schedule

When I say this, I mean wake up early, plan your entire day, be productive and go to bed early– simple as that. This is something I have struggled with the last couple of months. I barely sleep at night because I’m constantly on my computer or phone at ridiculous hours of the night, which results in 3-4 cups of coffee the following day. Coffee is bad for your skin, y’all, refrain as much as you can. Invest in a beneficial (and cute) planner and truly map out your day where you can be productive. Nothing feels better than crossing off your daily doings from your “to-do” list.

3. Get Moving

How is everyone’s New Year’s Resolution working out for them? 😉 I’m guilty. Very guilty but now that fall and winter are right around the corner, this is the time to really put that resolution to WORK. Getting your heart rate going and exhausting your body for 30 -45 minutes everyday is hands down the BEST anxiety/stress killer. Not to mention healthy skin, nails and overall health. Sweater weather is almost here; it’s so easy to indulge in a bag of candy corn while wearing your boyfriend’s sweater paired with cute boots & leggings and accidentally still look adorable. To be honest, I’ll definitely be indulging in candy corn while rocking some large sweaters but don’t forget to workout and drink more water on the daily. Joining a group fitness class is always motivating and goes by quickly if you have someone to go with. If you live in Lexington, SweatLex is where I’ll be! 4. Keep Your Energy, Mindset and Outlook Positive

It could always be worse than what it is and some people would love to have your horrible days. What’s the worst that can TRULY happen? Just because you missed a workout or slipped up and ate that cupcake when you know damn well you were on a diet won’t ruin your life, I promise. People who suffer from anxiety think it’s the end of the world when something doesn’t go accordingly but take a deep breath and understand that sometimes, things are out of your control and it’s OK. When things don’t go my way, I turn into a raging lunatic but it only takes me a couple of minutes to realize that I have no control over certain things. Make the very best out of every situation. Giving off positive energy, radiates positive energy. Be that person.

5. Declutter Your Life

Declutter everything. Get rid of stuff you don’t use or need. When I walk into a room full of useless items, I immediately get stressed out, don’t ask. Keeping your living and work space as clean and clutter free as possible will give you air to breathe and room to be creative. While you’re at it, declutter the people in your life who play no significant role whatsoever, they are unnecessary baggage that may be holding you back from really great things.
